Last night a huge crowd of fans greeted 25 local authors and illustrators to celebrate their recently published children's books.
The event, called Inside Story, was held at Mockingbird Books, a newish, completely charming children's bookstore in Seattle's Greenlake neighborhood (their kid book clubs have snacks!!!) (And, um, more importantly, great book picks!!!)

Inside Story is a party that only happens twice a year, but has been going on for about a decade thanks to George Shannon and Laura McGee Kvasnosky, the event's originators. For many years, the Western Washington chapter of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators has had its volunteers (in conjunction with different indie bookstores) put the event on. It is truly a book love fest.

The Inside Story is a free shindig -- local booksellers, media, and teacher/librarians are the main invitees. There's lots of wine and cheese and each author or illustrator speaks for three minutes about their book. They aren't allowed to read from their books, but sharing an 'inside story' about how the book came to be is the name of the game. In between presentations, there is a trivia quiz on children's books, and if you answer correctly you win one of the books being presented that night. At the end of the evening, there's more wine, cheese, and brownies and authors and illustrators sit and sign books.

Below is the first half of the list of presenters -- I'm blown away by the amount of talent we have in the Pacific Northwest and overjoyed that it rains so much -- I think that's why these 20+ talented people get so much done!

Good Books for Boys over Bound!

Dudes, dudettes. Did you see the super awesome new Guys Read trailer?!?

I stuck it up on Bound as well as a smattering of titles from the authors contributing.

Kinda peeved we have to wait UNTIL SEPTEMBER to read it!

But until then, I'll acquaint myself with the Davids, David Yoo and David Lubar. I might also have to read Paul Feig's older book... Yippee!

I was afraid my list of good books for boys would be short. But it is sNOT!
This is just part of the list, more to come in later weeks!

First off, watch this truly fantastico trailer out for a book that looks to be a boatload of fun. And I'm sorry to say the book isn't available until SEPTEMBER. ARRGH!

But take heart, I've listed all of the authors that are contributing to this super compendium and you can read all their other titles until "Guys Read: Funny Business" comes out. (You may also get "Guys Write for Guys Read" as an apéritif.)

These authors are writing for all age ranges, so check that out before you go giving a kindergartner "Kick Me." Or do, and tell me how that goes.
